Horizontal shading system
When building a greenhouse, a good shading system is essential. After all, shading systems ensure effective climate control, which improves the quality of the produce. In addition, such a system can result in significant savings on energy costs.
Snelder can supply a wide range of shade cloths, naturally tailored to the customer’s needs and crop selection. We offer energy-saving, sun-shading, blackout, and assimilation shade cloths.
We distinguish between two shade systems:
- pull-push system
- pull-wire system
The advantage of the tension-wire system is that it blocks very little light, whereas the pull/push tubes of the pull-push system do block light. The pull-push system, in turn, exerts less force on the facades, which is an advantage when working with multiple screens. Snelder supplies a complete range of components for both systems, such as wire guides, screen profiles, end plates, lip blocks, suspension brackets, and tension clamps. We manufacture the majority of these components in-house. We supply complete awning installations, including fabric from leading fabric suppliers. In addition, we also provide the drive system using rack-and-pinion gears or gearmotors.
Types: Horizontal Shielding
In the wire-pull system, a drive tube with tensioning bushings—onto which steel cables are wound and unwound—ensures the horizontal movement of the screen profile between the bars. We attach the fabric, which rests on the wire bed, to the screen profile that moves between the bars.
To ensure an airtight seal for the screen system, a sliding element is mounted beneath the screen profile. This sliding element has an adjustable sliding force and compensates for the greenhouse’s contraction and expansion.
Snelder also offers a suitable shade system for greenhouses without lattice beams, such as certain types of plastic-film greenhouses. In such cases, we use a 19 mm tube as the shade profile, to which we attach the various components, such as saddle clamps, fabric stoppers, tube clamps, and wire holders. The drive mechanism is identical to that of the tension wire system for Venlo greenhouses.
In the pull-push system, the screen system is operated by rack-and-pinion gears and pull/push tubes. These, in turn, are connected to the screen profile that is pulled between the bars. The diabolo wheel brackets guide the pull/push tube. To screen off a shorter (end) section, Snelder uses a special 4-roller retarder.

The new Zip Inn Screen mounting system for shade cloths is a fast, clean, and safe method for installing shade cloths in a greenhouse. The system was developed in collaboration with Bom Group, a greenhouse construction company and shade cloth specialist for the international horticultural sector.
- Cleaner Shade Cloth
By using a zipper system on a reinforced fabric edge, in combination with specially designed profiles, the shade cloth no longer needs to be attached manually and can be installed as soon as all construction work in the greenhouse is complete. This ensures that the shade cloth remains virtually 100% clean, for optimal results.
- Fast and safe installation
The new mounting system ensures fast and safe installation, as the screen fabric is installed from a single fixed and safe location, rather than while moving at height.
- Suitable for any screen fabric
The patented Zip Inn Screen system is, in principle, suitable for any screen fabric offered by standard screen fabric suppliers.
